I mention this because as an embryonic blogger I didn’t start and close a blog within three days so I could write about it. Trust me the six hours or so I spent was not so I could tell you about it. Especially with the projected clicks of a new blog. Not many.
I have a WordPress blog already for a non-league football ckub I fuss over. I set it up myself, it does actually very well, and I enjoy it, Although I have very much lost interest.
Although I will have a very smart blog on the new website I thought as the WordPress blog is free I would start blogging for the new site on it to start getting into the rhythm of regular blogging.
I was slightly peed off to pay £36 for the free blog but not enough not to pay.
It was simple to start the account and I had three blogs ready and posted them.
Although I set up my football blog, it was a while ago. You either stage your blog on one of the numerous ‘themes’ or default. My football blog was default. Default basically means very simple but you get a perfectly good functioning blog, about us etc and photos.
I made the mistake of trying to set up a theme. Far more complicated but looks far better.
I struggled with it and after a few hours gave up. Friday afternoon was time for some beers after all not technophobia!
Bizarrely when I took up the mantle again on the Monday I’d had over 50 views. With basically no effort, I couldn’t even find the homepage.
Enthused I wrote another blog post and went to ‘write.’
The beginning of the end!
The unfinished theme came to the screen with the notice that I needed to pay £240 to upgrade to use the theme. Not a problem I thought, I will go back to default rasther than pay £240. I had previously upgraded on my other blog to access themes and plug-ins and it was a total waste of money.
After two hours of watching videos, reading advice and getting nowhere I simply took the easy option and closed the blog down. With a new quality platform coming with the website there was no way I was going to spend hour after hour poring over the puzzle. Had there not been a new website with brass knobs coming I would of course of persevered. The default options on my football website keep it simple but perfectly adequate. But if you want to make it look slick and user friendly it really is worth paying for the theme option.
I’m just I had the option to bail rather than spend days head scratching!
PS. A ridiculous wave of bravado swept over me and having received my £36 back I started another one, hence you are reading this, but avoiding a theme design like the plague. Hurrah for WordPress default design!
